Janowski Gardens Cookbook

The Janowski Gardens Cookbook.
New Publication from New York History Review Press

HEALTHFUL HISTORIC COOKBOOK PUBLISHED

What happens when you stir up recipes with fresh vegetables and the history of a German family that emigrates to Elmira, New York in 1872?

Author, local historian, and cook, Diane Janowski answers this question and more in the Janowski Gardens Cookbook, a collection of her favorite recipes. Janowski Gardens Cookbook offers healthy-eating recipes ranging from soups and sauces, meat, poultry and fish, eggs and cheese, to desserts. Every recipe includes at least one vegetable ingredient grown at Janowski Gardens and it’s all served up with the history, humor and wit for which Diane is well known.

Interspersed throughout the book are photos and stories of the Janowski family and farm, one of Elmira’s best-kept secret wonderful places. Janowski Gardens has been a family-owned and operated vegetable growing enterprise on Esty Street on Elmira’s Southside for 134 years.

Diane Janowski, a local history writer in Elmira, New York, who served as the editor of the Chemung Historical Journal from 1999 to 2006, now publishes the New York History Review. Janowski has written two other history books this year through New York History Review Press - The Great Inter-State Fair, Elmira, New York 1890, and Victorian Pride – Forgotten Songs of Central New York 1841-1885.

New York History Review Press is proud to release the Janowski Gardens Cookbook (112 pp., $18.95).

ALMOST READY for our first publication

Well, we got off to a great start and although I wasn't intending to publish so quickly we are almost ready to announce our first publication - our first issue in hard copy. We are also planning a book called "The Great Inter-State Fair Elmira, New York 1890." That should be out fairly soon also.
